Folks have a chance to see a sold-out movie for free as a Christmas gift from a local church.
Liberty Spring Christian Church is hosting a showing of “Christmas with The Chosen: The Messengers” at 6 p.m. Dec. 15 at 4213 Whaleyville Blvd.
This is the Christmas special of the crowd-funded series “The Chosen” that follows the story of Jesus in His day-to-day life. In this special, folks will get to see the story of Jesus’ birth from the perspective of Mary and Joseph.
“When I watched the first couple episodes, I was blown away by the authenticity about what life and people were like back then and the humanity of Christ,” said Res Spears, senior pastor at Liberty Spring Christian Church.
Along with the story, Christian artists will perform new and classic Christmas songs on the set of “The Chosen” to remember the true meaning of the season. Performers include Phil Wickham, For King & Country, Brandon Lake, Maverick City Music, Cain, Matt Maher, Bryan & Katie Torwalt, Jordan Feliz, We The Kingdom, The Bonner Family, Leanna Crawford, Dawson Hollow and One Voice Children’s Choir.
This special will eventually air along with the rest of “The Chosen” for free. However, for Christmas, this episode is showing in select theaters and churches leading up to the holiday. Tickets are already sold out across Hampton Roads, making Liberty Spring’s showing a great opportunity to catch the episode.
When introducing this idea to the church, Spears received a unanimous vote from the church committees not only to host a showing but also to cover the ticket cost and serve pizza and popcorn. For those who would like to help out by paying for their own ticket or by making a donation, there will be a donation box at the event and tickets can be purchased online.
“It’s not needed, though,” said Spears. “This is a gift to the community where anyone can come, and we’ll make sure you have a seat and some pizza and popcorn.”
