Dr. Benigno D. Federici of Suffolk died unexpectedly on Monday, Jan. 24, 2022. He was 57.
Benigno was the beloved husband of Dr. Jana Boyd Federici as well as a devoted father to Valerio, Gabriella, Carter, Marco and Carmella. He was a loving brother to Christina Owens and her husband, Michael of Lawrenceville, Ga. and David Federici and his wife, Christine of Langhorne, Pa. He was loved by all of his nephews, nieces, cousins and in-laws. He was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Valerio Federici; his mother, Florence Federici and his two nephews, Alexi Owens and Steven Federici.
Born in Philadelphia, Pa., Benigno was a long-time resident of the Suffolk area and an active member of the community.
Benigno was a graduate of Villanova University, where he received his bachelor and master degrees in Biology. He received his Doctorate of Medicine from Jefferson Medical College in 1991 and completed his residency training in Norfolk at Eastern Virginia Medical School. He was a fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He was also an instructor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk. He was community faculty of Obstetrics and Gynecology for the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond. He was Clinical adjunct faculty for Old Dominion University in Norfolk. From 2019 to the present he was also faculty at Liberty University College of Osteopathic Medicine.
Benigno came to work for Specialists for Women in 1997 and later became president in 2003. At this practice, he was instrumental in shaping and revolutionizing women’s healthcare in the Suffolk and Hampton Roads area. Ben will be remembered for his eccentric tastes, his love of all things Italian but mostly for his sense of humor and the love that he had for his family, patients and co-workers.
Visitation with the family will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, at Parr Funeral Home, 3515 Robs Drive. A service will follow at 3 p.m. at the funeral home.
