A series of visiting artist workshops is coming to Suffolk schools this spring courtesy of the Suffolk Art League.
Two visiting artists will provide arts enrichment at each Suffolk public elementary and middle school as well as Nansemond Suffolk Academy’s lower and middle schools.
Krysten Washington will serve as this year’s middle school visiting artist. A Hampton resident, she is a lifelong art enthusiast with a passion for paint. She developed a workshop for middle schoolers that uses acrylic paint and tape on canvas board to explore notions of negative space. The theme aligns with the upcoming MC Escher Exhibition opening in April at the Chrysler Museum of Art in Norfolk.
This year’s elementary school visiting artist, Hillarey Breedlove, holds a degree in Fine Art from the University of Tennessee. She is a military spouse and mom with several years of experience leading youth arts workshops. Breedlove will bring her unique take on fluid arts with a sheep-themed watercolor workshop called “I LOVE EWE.”
“The Suffolk Art League is proud to provide arts education enrichment to Suffolk youth as well as opportunities for professional development for local artists,” the organization said in a news release. “These programs are supported by the Suffolk Fine Arts Commission and the Suffolk Foundation as well as the generosity of Suffolk Art League members.”
