Unexploded grenade found near townhomes

Suffolk Fire & Rescue and Suffolk Police investigated an unexploded ordnance at Beamon’s Mill Townhomes on Beamon’s Mill Trail on Tuesday morning. Dispatchers were notified at 9:03 a.m. At 9:50 a.m., Suffolk Fire & Rescue advised that the Virginia State Police Bomb Squad took possession of the item, noted to be a grenade, for further evaluation. No one was injured.

Behind an unoccupied townhome. As a result, two additional nearby residential buildings were evacuated as a precaution. The Virginia State Police Bomb Squad and Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal were contacted and responded to the scene to collect and remove the item for further evaluation.
