Nansemond-Suffolk Academy lacrosse standout David Russell has been named the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association Division II Bob Sandell Memorial Player of the Year.

Russell, the son of David and Debbie Russell, led the Saints to a No. 1 ranking throughout the regular season and a berth in the championship game of the state tournament.

He was a starter, as a ninth grader, on NSA’s state championship team, was a two-time team captain, and was also first-team all-state as a junior. He scored more than 100 goals during his career.
