Suffolk Police has obtained a petition/detention order for a 14-year-old boy charged with two felonies and a misdemeanor in connection to an incident involving a gun at Turlington Woods School Tuesday, June 14.
The boy has been charged with felony counts of possession of a firearm on school property and conspiracy to possess a firearm on school property, according to a June 16 department news release. He has also been charged with a misdemeanor count of possession of a firearm by a juvenile.
The 14-year-old has been taken to the Tidewater Detention Home in Chesapeake to be processed on the charges.
A second student who had been detained has been released to the child’s parents, police said.
Officers responded to the school at 629 Turlington Road at about 1:25 p.m. Tuesday after administrators alerted police that they believed a student had a firearm while on school property.
During a preliminary investigation, police recovered one firearm, which led to the students being detained.
Turlington Woods is Suffolk Public Schools’ daytime alternative program for middle and high school students who, for disciplinary reasons, have been removed from their assigned school.
The incident remains under investigation.
