Man wounded in shooting on North Broad Street near downtown

A Smithfield man sustained life-threatening images from gunfire on North Broad Street early Sunday.
The Suffolk 911 Center received several calls around 3:21 a.m. about shots fired in the 200 block of North Broad Street, north of West Washington Street, police said in a news release.
One caller said that a 25-year-old man was “self-transported” to a local hospital. Police said Mark Robertson of Smithfield remained hospitalized in serious condition Sunday evening.
Responding officers found several vehicles and residences damaged from gunfire, and multiple spent shell casings were collected.
