Pursuit ends in arrest of suspect in Saratoga Street homicide

Police arrested a Suffolk man Wednesday in connection with a Sept. 4 homicide after the man led authorities in a pursuit.
SPD received a call Wednesday, Sept. 7 from a citizen reporting a female citizen being actively assaulted by a male subject inside a vehicle. Officers responded to the area of Pitchkettle Road and located the vehicle, according to a SPD news release.
The officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle, but it refused to stop. While the officers pursued the vehicle, police said the female subject jumped from the moving vehicle.
The vehicle continued to elude police until the driver exited and attempted to flee on foot. Officers quickly apprehended the driver, according to the release.
The driver of the vehicle was identified as Preston Davis IV, 29, of Suffolk. Davis was being sought by Suffolk detectives as he was named the suspect in the Sept. 4 homicide of Caleb Pittman, which occurred in the area of South Saratoga Street.
As a result of the investigation involving the initial pursuit, SPD officials said Davis was charged with abduction, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, felony elude and numerous traffic offenses.
Additionally, Davis was arrested on charges related to the death of Caleb Pittman. These include second degree murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and shooting with the intent to maim, injure or kill, according to the release.
Davis is currently at Western Tidewater Regional Jail where he is being held without bond.
