Suffolk Police Department provided enhanced security at Booker T. Washington Elementary School Monday after receiving a false threat that an active shooter was on-site.
Emergency Communications received the call at 11:54 a.m. Monday, Sept. 19 reporting an active shooter at the school in the 200 block of Walnut Street, according to a police department news release.
Officers arrived on the scene and immediately performed a sweep of the building, confirming there was no active shooter at the school at 12:04 p.m., according to SPD.
With the false threat, which other schools across the region and the nation have experienced in recent weeks, the police department said the enhanced security would remain in place at the school for the rest of the day.
The incident remains under investigation and there is no further information available at this time.
