Many city offices set to close for Columbus Day

In observance of Columbus Day and Yorktown Victory Day, Suffolk City offices are closed Monday, Oct. 10. Normal operations resume at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11.
The city observes all state-designated holidays. Columbus Day and Yorktown Victory Day are considered a holiday for the Commonwealth of Virginia and all state offices are closed on this day.
Suffolk Public Works Department will pick up trash as scheduled the period of Oct. 11-14. TFC Recycling also willconduct their normal recycling collection routes the period of Oct. 11-14. Suffolk Public Works Department reminds residents that trash must be placed at curbside no later than 7 a.m. on the day of collection. The Southeastern Public Service Authority (SPSA) Transfer Station in Suffolk and the Regional Landfill are open from 8 a.m. until noon Monday, Oct. 10.
Suffolk Transit operates as normal Monday, Oct. 10.
All Suffolk Parks & Recreation joint use recreation facilities — Mack Benn Jr., Booker T. Washington, Kings Fork, Creekside, Northern Shores and Oakland — are closed Monday, Oct. 10. The East Suffolk Recreation Center and the Curtis R. Milteer Sr. Recreation Center also are closed Monday, Oct. 10.
All four major parks — Lone Star Lakes, Lake Meade, Sleepy Hole, Bennett’s Creek — remain open Monday, Oct. 10, however, no park attendant will be on duty.
The Suffolk Art Gallery is closed Saturday, Oct. 8 through Monday, October 10 and reopens on Tuesday, Oct. 11.
All Suffolk Public Libraries — Morgan Memorial, North Suffolk, Chuckatuck — are closed Monday, Oct. 10. Morgan Memorial and North Suffolk libraries reopen at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11, while the Chuckatuck Library reopens at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 17.
The Suffolk Visitor Center is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 10. The Suffolk Seaboard Station Railroad Museum also is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday, Oct. 10.
The Suffolk Executive Airport terminal is set to be unmanned Monday, Oct. 10. The airfield, self-service fuel island and restaurant remain open Monday, Oct. 10.
