Man arrested on larceny of a firearm, other charges

Police arrested a Suffolk man on charges linked to a stolen firearm and possession of illegal drugs after investigating a report of a person breaking into a vehicle and taking an assault weapon.
Suffolk Police Department investigated and arrested 18-year-old Trevon Wilson, of Suffolk on charges of possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession of a firearm with intent to sell marijuana, possession of a firearm while subject to a protective order, larceny of a firearm, grand larceny and destruction of property
According to a police department news release, they received a call at about 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 20 advising that a subject broke into a vehicle in the 1000 block of Meridian Obici Way and then fled into the wood line carrying an assault rifle that had been removed from the vehicle.
Officers responded to the area and set up a perimeter around the nearby apartment community, according to a news release.
Through their investigation, Suffolk Police officers on scene were able to determine that the suspect fled into an apartment building.
After receiving consent to search the apartment residence believed to be occupied by the suspect, the release said officers were able to take the suspect into custody without incident. A more detailed search of the residence resulted in the recovery of the stolen firearm, about $9,200 in cash, packaging materials and approximately one pound of marijuana.
Wilson, of Suffolk, is being held at Western Tidewater Regional Jail.
This incident remains under investigation and there is no further information available at this time.
