Recreation center to be dedicated to honor Milteer

The City of Suffolk plans to hold a dedication ceremony for the newly named Curtis R. Milteer Sr. Recreation Center, located at 132 Robertson Street, at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28.
Formerly called the Whaleyville Recreation Center, the facility is being renamed and dedicated to the long-time Suffolk City Council member and former Vice Mayor Curtis R. Milteer Sr., for his leadership and commitment to the city. Milteer served as the Whaleyville Borough representative on the Suffolk City Council for 40 years and was elected to 10 consecutive terms. He passed away on Jan. 31 at the age of 91.
The event is open to the public.
Confirmed guests include: Suffolk Mayor Michael D. Duman, Vice Mayor Leroy Bennett, Councilperson Shelley Butler Barlow, Councilman Roger Fawcett, Councilman Donald Goldberg, Councilman Timothy Johnson, Councilman Lue Ward, Councilman LeOtis Williams, Del. Emily Brewer, Rep. Elaine Luria, Rep. Bobby Scott and family members of Curtis R. Milteer Sr.
