Suffolk Art League, in cooperation with the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts and Suffolk Tourism, brings the VMFA on the Road to Suffolk on Nov. 18 and 19.
This Artmobile for the 21st Century will be located in the parking lot behind the tourism office at 524 North Main Street.
The featured exhibit is Revealing and Obscuring Identity: Portraits from the Permanent Collection.
This exciting exhibition of paintings, photographs and prints explores portraiture through a variety of periods, cultures and styles. Many of the works in this exhibition explore themes about the nature of art, perception of beauty, and cultural influences on identity.
Diverse works by more than 10 artists from across the globe, including Kitagawa Utamaro (Japanese), Gordon Stettinius (American), Andre L’Hote (French), and S. Ross Browne (American) are featured in this exhibition.
Middle School students from both the Suffolk Public Schools and Nansemond-Suffolk Academy are set to enjoy a guided tour of the exhibit by VMFA staff and a hands-on workshop led by Suffolk Art League on Friday.
The VMFA on the Road is free and open to the public from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19 during the farmers market. A free hands-on activity is also going to be available that day.
The art league encourages local residents to join them for this great opportunity to explore this exhibit from the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts permanent collection, without leaving the Suffolk City limits.
