God called Willis C. Davis home on Friday, Dec. 16, 2022, at Sentara Obici Hospital. Willis was born on Oct. 5, 1943, in Creeksville, N.C. to George Thomas Davis and Bruce J. Davis. Corky is predeceased by his sister, Mary Jo Hess and brother, Robert Bruce Davis. He moved up to Suffolk and attended Suffolk High School. He was given the nickname, “Corky”, by one of his teachers and that became the name he was known by.
Corky worked at Smithfield Packing Company, Gwaltney Meat Packing and Columbia Propane, later known as AmeriGas, where he retired. He also served with the Nansemond-Suffolk Rescue Squad.
Corky is survived by his loving wife, Brenda Perry Davis; children, Sharon Kaye Kinsey (Mark), Thomas C. Davis (Denise), Timothy Alan Davis (Patti Conrad) and Gregory A. Davis; grandchildren, Katelyn Wolford, Joshua Kinsey (Katrina), Jon Kinsey (Caitlin), Eric Davis (Holly), Ciara Davis, Shelby C. Pope (Paul), K.C. Christinson and Nathan Davis; great-grandchildren, Ryleigh and Bentley Wolford, Jasmine and Skylar Davis, Isabella and Jozalyn Kinsey, Willoughby and Gannon Snowdon and Gwendolyn Pope; and brother, Thomas G. Davis. Corky never knew a stranger, and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Corky’s celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 8, at Liberty Spring Christian Church, 4213 Whaleyville Blvd. with Pastor Res Spears officiating. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Alzheimer’s Foundation, Liberty Spring Christian Church or Creeksville Baptist Church, Creekville, N.C.
