Suffolk Public Schools begin their 4×4 block schedule for both middle and high school students in fall 2023.
Town hall meetings focused on the new schedule are set for Wednesday, Jan. 18 at King’s Fork High School and Thursday, Jan. 19 at Nansemond River High School. Both town hall meetings are from 6 to 7 p.m.
“We see a lot of benefits for our students,” said Chief of Schools Dr. Stenette Byrd III. “It provides a consistent schedule of the same four classes everyday for an entire semester. Also, it gives opportunities for teacher repertoire to be built quickly as they see their teachers every day.”
Likewise, Byrd explained the benefits for both advanced students and those struggling in their courses.
“Students in advanced programs typically have tight schedules, but with the additional class each year, they have the opportunity to explore other electives and the opportunity to earn multiple industry credentials,” he said. “Struggling students have less of a chance of falling behind their peers all in effort to graduate.”
