Suffolk man arrested in connection with Hardy Court shooting that damaged vehicles, one home

Suffolk Police arrested a man in connection with a shooting in the 4600 block of Hardy Court that caused damage to several vehicles and one residence.

Wilbur Cross, 35, of Suffolk, was charged Monday, Jan. 23 in connection with the shooting incident at Hardy Court Saturday evening, Jan. 21, according to a news release from Suffolk Police.  

The investigation revealed Cross was at Hardy Court when he got into a verbal altercation and pulled out a handgun and started shooting, police said in the release. The report shows the shooting was reported to Suffolk’s 911 Center at about 8:10 p.m. Initially, it was believed that only a few unoccupied vehicles had sustained damage from gunfire, however, further investigation determined an occupied residence had been struck as well.

Police said Cross is being held at the Western Tidewater Regional Jail and has been charged with three felonies — possession of a firearm by a felon, attempted malicious wounding and shooting into an occupied dwelling. He also was charged with two misdemeanors — brandishing a firearm and shooting in a public place. 

The investigation remains ongoing at this time, and there is no further information available for release at this time.
