On Friday, Jan. 27, 2023, Sandra Scott Knight, 79, of Chesapeake, found rest in the arms of her Heavenly Father. She was born on Nov. 25, 1943, in Suffolk. She was preceded in death by her father, Joseph H. Scott (who passed while she was a baby), Ernell and Leon Davis (her mother and earthly father) and her sister, Jo Lorraine Scott Hubbard.
A lifelong faithful and active East End Baptist Church member, Sandra was affiliated with several ministries. A graduate of the 1962 class of Booker T. Washington High School, she held several positions with the Booker T. Washington High School Alumni Association. She received her bachelor of science in education from Norfolk State University and her master of science in education from the University of Virginia. After almost 40 years of teaching in various Virginia and New Jersey school districts, Sandra retired from the Chesapeake Public School District.
Sandra is survived by her husband, Jefferson M. Knight; her children, W. James “Jimmy” Almond of Woodbridge and Dr. Aviance S. Lewis of Suffolk; three grandsons, Derrick S. Almond of Greenville, North Carolina, Dominic S. Almond of Richmond and Devann A. Lewis of Suffolk; sisters, Dr. Joyce G. Davis of Fairfax, Ernell Leondra Bunch (Charles) of Portsmouth and Vance Faye Davis of Washington, D.C.; two nieces, Dr. Holly L. Hubbard of Lawrenceville, Georgia and Dr. Melanee M. Davis of Arlington; two nephews, Thomas Howard Hubbard of Decatur, Georgia and Vann L. Davis of Richmond; aunt, Blondell Scott Hardie of Portsmouth; uncle, Robert Lee Scott of Newport News; cousins, Laverne Brockington of Franklin, Christopher Elliott Jones (Dorothy) of Virginia Beach, Lenora Jones of Virginia Beach, Charlotte Scott-Smith of Chesapeake, Cynthia Eaton of Portsmouth and James Clifton of Chesapeake; daughter-in-love, Sonya Almond of Richmond; son-in-love, Darryl Lewis of Suffolk; dear friends, Loretta Brown Blunt of Oxon Hill, Maryland, the Rev. Rosa Lee Vann Crawford of Burke, Roland Wilson of Suffolk and the entire Booker T. Washington Class of 1962. She also leaves behind a host of other relatives and friends.
A viewing is from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 2 at Harris Funeral Home, 685 Carolina Road. The celebration of life is at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 3 at East End Baptist Church, 1056 Portsmouth Blvd. This service will be live-streamed on theeastendbaptistchurch.com/live-stream. Internment at Carver Memorial Cemetery.
