Sunday fire causes heavy damage to home, displacing two

A Sunday afternoon fire heavily damaged a home in the 100 block of Beechwood Drive, displacing two people.

Emergency Communications was informed of the fire at 1:46 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 5. They dispatched Suffolk Fire and Rescue, which arrived on the scene at 1:52 p.m.

The first arriving units found heavy fire showing from multiple windows and smoke pushing from the eaves of the single story brick residence, according to a news release. Fire crews performed an aggressive interior attack and performed search and rescue efforts for possible occupants.

One occupant had evacuated prior to arrival of fire units and was alerted of the fire by smoke detectors. No injuries to firefighters or civilians.

The residence sustained heavy fire damage. The Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.

The American Red Cross is assisting the two occupants displaced by the fire. 

Sixteen units from Suffolk Fire and Rescue responded to the call.
