Michael enjoys making his performances interactive, and loves children being in the audience. He is providing Suffolk Center with an essay contest specifically for fifth graders. Working with elementary schools all over Suffolk, teachers received the following writing prompt: “Imagine that one day as you are walking home from school, you find a small wooden box. When you open the box, you find that there is a magic wand inside. The instructions inside the box read ‘This wand has the power to change the world. Be careful, you can only wave it once.’ If this really happened to you, how would you change the world, and why?”

To date, Suffolk Center has received 54 inspiring entries, ahead of the Feb. 6 deadline.

“It is so impressive to see fifth graders care so much about making the world a better place,” Suffolk Center Creative Director Rick Byrd said. “Students are using their one magical wish to cure cancer, end bullying, make the planet healthy, end poverty, eliminate violence, all their ideas are very BIG and impactful.”

Two responses will be selected as winners of the 150-word essay contest. The first-place winner receives free tickets to the Chris Michael Experience for themselves and up to four family members, a magic wand and will be brought up on stage to meet Chris Michael. The winning student’s teacher also receives two free tickets to the performance. The second-place winner and this teacher also receive free tickets.

The Chris Michael Experience is a great chance for families to enjoy a fun evening out, for a group of friends to laugh together, or for a magical date night. Tickets are on sale now — adults $28 and youth $18 (ages 15 & under). Purchase tickets by calling the Suffolk Center Box Office at 757-923-2900, online at https://suffolkcenter.org/chris-michael-experience/ or stop by the Suffolk Center, 110 W. Finney Ave.
