On Monday, Feb. 6, 2023, Alvin Lamar Emanuel Banks departed this world to live his eternal life with God.

Alvin “AB” Emanuel Banks was born Nov. 5, 1984, in Suffolk, to Glory Emanuel and George Banks Sr. He excelled in football at Bennett’s Creek Warriors. He attended Lakeland High School and later obtained his GED in 2013. He then furthered his education with a degree in welding from Tidewater Community College in May 2017.

He became an entrepreneur in 2020 when he opened his first dealership, B & E Automotive, in Portsmouth which led to him opening his second shop, Banks Automotive, in Hampton in 2022.

He was preceded in death by his father, George Alvin Banks Sr.; his paternal grandparents, Willie Banks and Gracie Ward Scott; his maternal grandparents, Rufus Emanuel and Katie Emanuel; his brother, George Banks Jr.; and his sister, Grace Banks.

He leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Glory Jean Emanuel; his four children, Kae’Shawn Banks, Jamelra Skinner, Alvin Banks Jr. and Journee Harden; his sisters, Elanor Banks, Phyllis Jones (Samuel), Barbara Sheperd, Clarice Jones, Nadine Brooks, Gwendolyn Emanuel, Tamika Emanuel Riddick and Wanda Wynn; his brother, Reginald Banks; his fiancé, Yashica Hamlin (Kee Kee); his uncles, David Cole (Ellen), Joseph Cole (Lenora), Garlin Scott, Rickey Scott and Theodore Scott; his aunt, Carolyn Williams; special nieces, Tamine Banks, Lakeida Banks, Sharina Banks and Arbriett Emanuel; special nephews, Dijon Elliott and Micheal Banks; and several uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and cherished friends.

A visitation takes place from 3 to 6 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. A celebration of life service is at noon Saturday, Feb. 18, at New Mt. Joy Food For Living Ministry Church and he will be laid to rest at Carver Memorial Cemetery.
