Friday rail crossing closure on Carolina between Obici Industrial and Greenfield set for repairs

Suffolk Public Works Traffic Engineering advises a railroad crossing on Carolina Road between Obici Industrial Boulevard and Greenfield Crescent is to be closed beginning Friday, March 10 for maintenance and repairs.

The department said in a news release that Norfolk Southern notified the city that the closure is estimated to take one day. 

The previously announced railroad crossing closure at County Street between Mill Street and Van Buren Avenue is expected to be complete Friday, March 10 and the roadway will be reopened at that time.

Weather dependent, the Carolina Road work was expected to start at 8 a.m. and is estimated to be complete by 6 p.m. Friday, March 10.  Public Works officials said they plan to provide updates on closure.

Message Boards are currently in place to notify motorists of the upcoming closure. Motorists are encouraged to follow the detour signs in place.
