Second bomb threat leads to middle school evacuation

Students at Col. Fred Cherry Middle School were evacuated Thursday for a second time this week due to a bomb threat.

Suffolk emergency communications was notified of the bomb threat by a school administrator at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, March 16.

Suffolk Police and Suffolk Fire and Rescue responded and the school was evacuated and a sweep of the facility was conducted by Suffolk Police and the Suffolk Fire Marshal’s Office with multi-jurisdictional assistance from Newport News, Isle of Wight and Portsmouth Police K-9 units. No injuries were reported.

No threat was found and the building received the all-clear at 1:45 p.m. at which time students and staff were allowed re-entry into the building. 

Another bomb threat was received by a Col. Fred Cherry administrator at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 14, leading to evacuation of the building right at the time school was being dismissed. A sweep of the school did not turn up a threat and an all clear was given.

Both incidents remain under investigation. Police said there is no further information available at this time.
