Ahead of Easter weekend, the Suffolk Sheriff’s Office and the Easter Bunny joined forces to brighten the day for young and old alike.

The Wednesday, April 5 stops included Lake Prince, Concordia, Maryview and Autumn Care Nursing Homes to deliver fluffy and colorful bunnies smiles to the residents. They made an earlier visit with staff of Sentara Obici’s Family Maternity Center to deliver bunnies to newborns March 29.

“Each year we coordinate with the nursing homes for the opportunity to visit the residents,” Deputy Major David Miles said as deputies and the Easter Bunny brought smiles to faces. “Of the few opportunities a year that we visit the nursing homes, visiting with the Easter Bunny is my favorite. When the Easter Bunny walks into the room, you get to see the child on the inside of the person come out. The excitement on their faces as they smile, laugh and some want to hug him. Those moments are priceless.”

Miles the project helps make the holiday special.

“This year, as we have in years past, we left Easter bunnies with the residents that have the phrase ‘Some Bunny Loves You’ embroidered on them,” Miles said of the colorful stuffed bunnies. “I hope that the patients and residents will look at those bunnies and be reminded that they are still loved and cared for.”
