Thursday morning fire damages Benton Road home, displaces two

An early Thursday morning fire at a home located in the 300 block of Benton Road caused heavy damage to the home, displacing two people.

Suffolk’s emergency communications was contacted at 1:55 a.m. May 11, and the first unit from Suffolk Fire and Rescue arrived on scene at 2:01 a.m.

First units arrived on scene to find a single-family residential home with heavy smoke and fire showing, according to a department news release.  Fire crews performed an aggressive interior attack on the fire.

Two occupants had evacuated prior to the arrival of fire units. The home sustained heavy fire damage. There were no injuries to firefighters or civilians.

The two occupants were displaced and are being assisted by the Red Cross.  The fire is currently under investigation from the Fire Marshal’s Office.

Ten units and the Fire Marshall responded to the call.
