Rupert Earl Boyd, 86, passed away Saturday, May 20, 2023. He was born in Bertie County, North Carolina, the son of the late Dennis Joyner Boyd and Nora Todd Boyd. He was predeceased by his brothers, “D.J.,” Everette and Dalton Boyd. Rupert was a United States Army veteran. He built, owned and operated Boyd Motor Company. In his retirement, he delivered the Suffolk News-Herald to subscribers. After retirement from his route, and up to his death, he enjoyed delivering the newspapers to about 30 of his neighbors. He was a member of First Baptist Church. He loved trains of all sizes and was a member of the Tidewater Big Train Operator Association.
Rupert is survived by his daughter, Cynthia “Cindy” Boyd Campbell and husband, Carlisle W. Campbell Jr.; son, Steve G. Boyd; grandchildren and their spouses, Corey W.B. Campbell (Bethany), Tiffany Hope Santoro (Mike Jr.), Krystal Faith Jermstad (Kenny); great-grandchildren, Paige Caroline Campbell, Natalie Grace Campbell, Aksel Ross Jermstad, Lukas Bentz Jermstad, Elisha Cash Santoro, and Rustin Holden Jermstad.
A graveside service is at 3 p.m. Thursday, May 25, at Holly Lawn Cemetery with the family officiating. Condolences may be registered online at parrfuneralhome.com.
