City offices close for Memorial Day holiday

In observance of the Memorial Day holiday, Suffolk City offices are closed Monday, May 29. Normal operations resume at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 30.

Memorial Day is considered a holiday for the Commonwealth of Virginia, and all state offices are closed on this day. The city observes all state-designated holidays.

The Suffolk Public Works Department is picking up trash as scheduled from May 30 through June 2. Trash must be placed curbside by 7 a.m. on the collection day. TFC Recycling also conducts its usual recycling collection routes from May 30 through June 2. For more information on refuse collection, call Public Works at 757-514-7630.

The Southeastern Public Service Authority Transfer Station in Suffolk and the Regional Landfill are open from 8 a.m. to noon Monday, May 29.  

Suffolk Transit is not operating Monday, May 29. 

Suffolk Parks & Recreation Joint Use Recreation Centers — Kings Fork, Creekside, Northern Shores, Oakland, Booker T. Washington and Mack Benn Jr. — are closed Monday, May 29, and reopen at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 30. The East Suffolk Recreation Center, Curtis Milteer Recreation Center and Bennett’s Creek Recreation Center are closed Monday, May 29, and reopen at 6 a.m. Tuesday, May 30. The Suffolk Parks & Recreation Administration Office is closed Monday, May 29, and reopens at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 30.

Suffolk’s four major parks, Lone Star Lakes, Lake Meade, Sleepy Hole,and Bennett’s Creek, remain open Monday, May 29. However, no park attendant is on duty.

The Suffolk Art Gallery is closed Monday, May 29, and reopens at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 30.

Cypress Park and Pool is open from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m., Monday, May 29, weather permitting.

All Suffolk City Libraries — Morgan Memorial, North Suffolk and Chuckatuck — are closed for the Memorial Day Holiday Monday, May 29. Morgan Memorial and North Suffolk Library reopen at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 30, while the Chuckatuck Library reopens at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 5.

The Suffolk Visitor Center is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, May 29. The Suffolk Seaboard Station Railroad Museum is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, May 29.

The Suffolk Executive Airport terminal is unstaffed Monday, May 29. The airfield, self-service fuel island and restaurant are open Monday, May 29.
