Suffolk is one of the fastest-growing cities in the state, and with that growth comes many mixed options on how and where that growth should occur.

Smart Grow Suffolk is a new non-profit that aims to build relationships that engage, educate and support communities and neighborhoods for investment through identifying, planning, and managing economic development activities.

“As our city continues to grow, it is vital that we do so in a way that incorporates the needs and concerns of all our citizens. Our primary goal is to connect our elected and appointed officials, neighborhood leaders, businesses, investors, and stakeholders in a holistic approach that addresses our aging communities and new development,” said Lakita Frazier, president and founding board member at Smart Grow Suffolk Inc.

The founding board also consists of Latroy Brinkley, a downtown business owner, who serves as the vice president, and Domenick Epps, a realtor/business owner.

“Being from Suffolk, I am excited about the growth our city is experiencing. Much work still needs to be done, so I’m a part of Smart Growth Suffolk,” Brinkley said. “Together we are providing hope to Suffolkians who never thought they would see the amazing changes and improvements to our city. It’s a great time to be in Suffolk. Let’s grow smart.”

A kickoff event is scheduled at 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 20, at 116 Romans Rd. For more information, contact Frazier at smartgrowsuffolk@gmail.com
