Suffolk’s Reece is first runner-up in pageant

Ni’Jahe Malea Saunders was crowned Miss Blue Revue 2023 Saturday, June 3 at King’s Fork High School auditorium.
The Roanoke Chowan Graduate Chapter (North Carolina) of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. presented the pageant, which is for scholarship purposes for worthy high school participants.
Saunders is the daughter of Dominique Hathaway and Danyell Saunders of Gates, North Carolina. She is a junior at Gates County High School. Saunders was escorted by her father, Dominique Hathaway. She was sponsored by Soror Precious James.
First runner-up Ramayah Reese is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Darrell and Shaunique Reese of Suffolk. She is a senior at King’s Fork High School. Reese was escorted by her father, Darrell Reese. She was sponsored by Soror Emily Cross.
Second runner up Nadia LaSandra Fennell is the daughter of Nicole Fennell of Aulander, North Carolina. She is a junior at Hertford County Early College. She was escorted by Jalen Freeman, a junior at Norfolk State University. He is the grandson of Lenwood Freeman of Gates. She was sponsored by Judith Boone.
The sorority extended its thanks to the parents of each contestant and Jalen Freeman for their participation and support in helping to make the event a success. Members also recognizedKing’s Fork High School Principal Derrick Bryant and Suffolk Public Schools for the use of KFHS.
