Person injured in Starbucks shooting, suspect released

A verbal dispute that turned into a physical altercation at the Harbourview Starbucks ended with one of the two individuals hit by gunfire.

Suffolk Police Department responded to the Starbucks located in the 5800 block of Harbourview Boulevard at 10:18 a.m. Thursday, July 27, where two customers were involved in a verbal dispute inside the establishment.

The dispute escalated into a physical altercation, which police said resulted in one of the involved parties being struck by gunfire from the other involved party outside of the establishment near the parking lot. The suspect then fled on foot and was later apprehended by Suffolk Police Officers near the scene.

A weapon was recovered in the area where the subject was apprehended, police said in a news release.

Media and Community Relations Director Jennifer Moore confirmed Friday afternoon the individual being held was released and is not facing charges at this time.

When police arrived on the scene they discovered the one adult with a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to an area hospital with life threatening injuries, according to the release

The investigation remains ongoing. Police said there is no further information available for release.
