Suffolk alumnae sorority chapter wins national award

The Suffolk Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority recently received a prestigious national physical and mental health award from the national organization.
Chapter President Belinda S. Pitts accepted the Exemplary Live Well Program first place medium chapter award July 21 from the National Program Planning and Development Physical and Mental Health Subcommittee during the 56th national convention in Indianapolis, Indiana.
The recognition is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the chapter’s members, who have been unwavering in their commitment to enhancing the health and well-being of their community, according to a chapter news release.

Over the years, Suffolk Alumnae Chapter has consistently prioritized promoting physical and mental health in their community and among their members through various impactful initiatives. Their efforts have included organizing health fairs, fitness programs, mental health workshops, blood drives and other events to raise awareness about the significance of caring for both bodies and minds.
“We are incredibly honored to receive this distinguished award from Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc.,” Pitts said. “It is a testament to the commitment and passion of our members who have been steadfast in fostering a healthier community. We hope this recognition will inspire others to join us in our mission to promote physical and mental well-being in Suffolk.”
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority is an organization of college-educated women dedicated to constructive development and public service, with a primary focus on the Black community.
The Suffolk Alumnae Chapter, in its 59th year of sisterhood, scholarship, service and social action, is dedicated to having a positive effect in the areas of economic development, educational development, international awareness and involvement, political awareness and involvement, as well as physical and mental health.
Their commitment to fostering a healthier community remains unwavering as they strive to make a lasting impact through their five-point programmatic thrust, the release stated.
