Friday afternoon fire damages South Quay home

Heavy fire and smoke damage displaced one person from a home in the 7600 Block of South Quay Road Friday afternoon.

Emergency Communications dispatched Suffolk Fire and Rescue at 2:14 p.m. for a residential structure fire.

Medic 7 arrived at 2:18 p.m. to find smoke showing from the attic of the single-story residential structure.  Engine 7 then arrived and found fire in the kitchen of the structure and performed an aggressive interior attack to stop the fire’s progress.

The rescue company performed searches and ventilation was completed, according to a department news release.  

Officials said there was heavy fire and smoke damage occurred to the entire structure.  No occupants or firefighters were injured. 

The American Red Cross is being contacted to assist the one adults displaced.  

The Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause and origin of the fire. The fire was placed under control at 2:40 p.m. 

Thirteen units from Fire and Rescue responded to the fire.Suffolk Police provided scene and traffic control.
