Dozer operator injured, extracted with rope rescue

Bulldozer accident Monday seriously injured its operator who had to be rescued with a rope extraction. Emergency Communications dispatched Suffolk Fire and Rescue and Suffolk Police at 1:23 p.m. Monday, Aug. 7 to the 4800 Block of Nansemond Pkwy for an industrial accident. Two Fire and Rescue units arrived at 1:31 p.m. to find a bulldozer that went over the top of a large debris pile, injuring the operator, according to a department news release. The injured person was assessed, treated and packaged by paramedics for transport. Due to the steep incline and elevation of the debris pile, firefighters used a coordinated rope extraction to remove the operator. The technical rescue was completed at 2:01 p.m. The injured operator was transported with serious injuries to a local hospital. The Suffolk Department of Fire and Rescue’s Fire Marshal’s Office and Suffolk Police are investigating the cause of the industrial accident. There were no injuries to rescuers.
