SUFFOLK – The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will hold two public hearings to share information and receive feedback on the Bower Hill Interchange Improvements Study Draft Impact Statement (DEIS).

In a press release, VDOT announced the first public hearing will be held virtually Tuesday, Aug. 29, from 5:30 until 6:30 p.m. To register for the hearing, go to https://vdotmeeting.com/bowershill. The in-person hearing will occur on Wednesday, Aug. 30, at the VDOT Hampton Roads District Office at 7511 Burbage Road.

The Bowers Hill Interchange Improvements Study evaluates options to improve the Bowers Hill Interchange in Chesapeake, Suffolk, and Portsmouth. It covers the junction of I-664, I-64, I-264, Route 13, Route 58, Route 460, and Route 191 (Jolliff Road) and seven miles of I-664 to College Drive (exit 8A).

The DEIS presents the analysis of the potential environmental impacts associated with the proposed transportation improvements for the Bowers Hill Interchange Improvements Study area.

 The virtual meeting will include a presentation by the VDOT project team, allowing the public to ask questions verbally and via an online chat format. The in-person public hearing will be an open-house meeting with no formal presentation. Media are invited to attend both sessions.  The release also states comments from the public regarding the proposed project may be submitted online, by phone, in person, or via email by Sept. 11, 2023, to Andrew.Pike@VDOT.Virginia.gov. Written comments postmarked by Sept. 11, 2023, may also be submitted by mail addressed to Bowers Hill Interchange Improvements Study, 11827 Canon Boulevard, Suite 402, Newport News, VA 23606.

 In case of technical issues or inclement weather, the virtual public hearing back-up date is Sept. 5 from 5:30-6:30 p.m., and the in-person back-up date is Sept. 6, 2023, from 5-7 p.m. at the same location.
