Watch for detours as emergency rail crossing repairs begin

Suffolk Public Works Roadways Division advises of three upcoming railroad crossing closures for emergency repairs and maintenance. 

In a news release, officials said it is crucial to emphasize that these closures will result in a complete shutdown of the affected crossings. Motorists should prepare to adhere to designated detours or arrange an alternative route. The specified dates and times are subject to change based on weather conditions.

North Main Street: CSX Transportation will have the railroad crossing on North Main Street between Prentis Street and Finney Avenue closed for track maintenance beginning at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 29.  The railroad crossing is scheduled to reopen by 8 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 30.  Detour signage will be in place.

West Constance Road: CSX Transportation will have the railroad crossing on West Constance Road between Prentis Street and Second Street closed for track maintenance beginning at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 31  The railroad crossing is scheduled to reopen by 8 a.m. Friday, Sept. 1.  Detour signage will be in place.

Kings Fork Road: Norfolk Southern Railway will have the railroad crossing on Kings Fork Road at Archers Mill Road closed for track maintenance beginning at 8 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 29. The railroad crossing is scheduled to reopen at 8 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 6.
