Shirley Ann Dawson Mutter, 91, of Suffolk, passed away Saturday, Aug. 26, 2023. She was the daughter of the late Charles Edward Dawson and Eva Crawford Dawson. 

She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Robert Junior Mutter, and a son, James Bower Mutter. She is survived by her daughters, Stephanie Karen Murrell (Stan) of Smithfield and Debra Lynn Beaton of Chesterfield; grandsons, Brad and Craig Beaton; granddaughter, Shelby Murrell and three great-grandchildren. 

She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and a member of the Louise Obici Hospital Ladies Auxiliary. She volunteered to serve her community at every opportunity working in the classroom at school, various charities, the hospital and her church. She loved to cook and bake cookies for everyone in the neighborhood. Together with Mr. Mutter they enjoyed ballroom dancing and were members of many social clubs. In her later life, she worked with her husband at the dry cleaners and also enjoyed playing cards with her girlfriends.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 31, at Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. Online condolences may be registered at littlesfuneralhome.com.
