Liberty Spring Christian Church, located at 4213 Whaleyville Blvd., is hosting a Small Church Missions Conference on Sept. 29 – Oct. 1.

Pastor Res Spears says the conference was developed because he recognized that small churches especially non denominational ones face distinct disadvantages when knowing how to engage in missional outreach and evangelism.

“This conference has been developed out of my recognition that small churches especially non denominational ones face some distinct disadvantages when it comes to knowing how to engage in the types of missional outreach and evangelism commanded to us by the Great Commission,” he said. “How can we connect to ministries that need our help? What kinds of help do they need? How can we move from check-writing to putting boots on the ground? How can we discern which of the many organizations taking groups on short-term missionary trips are doing the best work?”

The Small Church Missions Conference will present an opportunity to get some answers to these questions. Attendees will meet representatives from approximately two dozen missional ministries recommended by small churches in and around Suffolk that have supported and vouched for them. Attendees can also ask questions, get information, learn about new opportunities, and develop relationships with organizations devoted to serving others and spreading the Good News of Jesus Christ.

The conference agenda has been developed with the aid of small churches in and around Suffolk. Still, attendance is open to all – small and large churches, clergy, and laity from Suffolk and the surrounding communities.

Scheduled guest speakers and presenters include Rodney Orr, Dean of Dallas Theological Seminary’s Washington, D.C., campus, Rev. Dr. Chris Suber, founder and executive director of Supply and Multiply, and Kevin Gottlieb.
