Gwendolyn Fay Rountree, 91, was called home on the morning of Oct. 7, 2023, at her home in Appomattox. Her departure was serene and swaddled in the reverence of her beloved family.

Gwendolyn, otherwise known as Fay, was born on Dec. 15, 1931, to Moses and Lillian Chamblee in Norfolk. She attended Maury High School and had her first date with her future husband, Walter Leslie Rountree, at the infamous Doumar’s Barbecue.

Fay is predeceased by her parents, her sister, Ruth and her husband, Walter. She is survived by her sister, Dorothy; brother, Larry; children, Pat, Diana and Nancy; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren and countless friends.

A memorial service for Gwendolyn Fay Rountree will be held at 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 20 at Bible Baptist Church, 297 Bible Baptist Road, Appomattox, with dinner to follow.
