Parris Delano Carson, 81, of Suffolk died Thursday, October 12, 2023. He is the son of the late Johnnie and Pearl Carson.

Parris graduated from East Suffolk High School and Elizabeth City State University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology, Virginia State University with a Masters in Education and the University of Virginia with a Certificate of Advanced Studies. 

Parris is a retired Assistant Superintendent of the Suffolk Public School System. He was a faithful member of Oak Grove Baptist Church and a proud member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. 

Parris is survived by his wife of 56 years, Winnie (Sears) Carson; his daughters, Janita Carson Ford of Lithia Springs, Georgia and Sheree Carson of Upper Marlboro, Maryland; his son, Gordon Burrell (Elaine) of Suffolk; his brothers, James Carson, Earl Carson and Willie Leslie Carson and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, village children and close friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Johnnie, and Pearl (Ferguson) Carson; his brother, John Carson and his two sisters, Dorthelia “Dot” Carson Bryant (Joseph – deceased) and Jodie Mae Carson.

A funeral service will be held at noon, Friday, Oct. 20, at Oak Grove Baptist Church officiated by Dr. Anthony Copeland. The interment will be at Meadowbrook Memorial and Cremation Gardens.

A memorial service will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 18, at Nansemond River High School. The public visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. and the Omega Memorial Service from 7 to 9 p.m. will be held on Thursday, Oct. 19, at Harris Funeral Home. Harris Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
