Raymond T. Jernigan, 93, passed away on Oct. 22, 2023, at his home in Yorktown. A native of Suffolk, he was the son of the late, Herbert and Effie May Jernigan. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his loving wife, Audrey Harrell Jernigan; granddaughter, Abigail Rose Jernigan; sister-in-law, Barbara Ann Harrell Fanny; niece, Juanita “Nita” Fanny Parker; four brothers, William, Arthur, Louis “Red” and Robert Earl; and two sisters, Nellie and Selena.
He is survived by his son, Raymond T. “Tom” Jernigan Jr. and two granddaughters, Elise and Ava Jernigan, of Yorktown. He loved Elise and Ava very much and they always put a smile on his face and made him laugh. Other survivors include his wife’s siblings and their families, Jean H. Harms of Alexandria and JoAnn H. Jones of Ahoskie, N.C.; brother-in-law, Marvin Lee Fanny, Sr. and two sisters-in-law, Frances Jernigan and Lillie Jernigan, all of Suffolk. In addition, he leaves to cherish his memory many nieces, nephews and cousins and their families.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff of Traditions Hospice for the care and compassion provided to him in his final days.
A visitation will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27, at R. W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Crematory, 509 W. Washington St. followed by a graveside service at 2 p.m. at Holly Lawn Cemetery.
