It was a morning of honoring those who served as Lake Prince Woods EveryAge Senior Living held a special Veterans Day Appreciation Ceremony for their resident veterans on Thursday, Nov. 9, at their Portsmouth Center, located at 100 Anna Goode Way. Veterans and their families joined together, honored and thanked for their service to their country. Lake Prince Woods Executive Director Judy Raymond welcomed attendees of the ceremony.

“Thank you all for being here today as we recognize our veterans, their families, our future veterans and all of us who support our staff, our residents … Thank you for serving. Thank you, families, for supporting,” Raymond said.

Along with the invocation provided by Chaplain Gary Newsome, the Lakeland Air Force JROTC presented the color guard with the Nansemond-Suffolk Academy High School Band performing The Star-Spangled Banner. Speaker Sr. Airman Jeremiah Brown from Joint Base Langley-Eustis also honored resident veterans with a slideshow presentation on the history of Veterans Day.

“Happy Veterans Day to all, and I appreciate everyone’s support and service to the country,” Brown said, finishing his presentation.

Following the ceremony, Raymond expressed how wonderful the ceremony was and praised LHS Air Force JROTC and NSA High School Band for their work.

“What’s going through my mind is, looking at all of our residents and staff who have served in the military and family members who have served in the military, how fortunate we are to have people that will stand up for our country, and make us proud,” Raymond said.
