Sarah Frances Carr Pettit, 81, went to be with the Lord on Nov. 22, 2023. She was the daughter of the late, Elsie Spivey and William Carr Sr. Frances is preceded in death by her husband, Jack Pettit and siblings, Elsie Duke, Mary Butler, William Carr Jr. and James Carr.

Frances was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church of Suffolk, where she served on the Altar Guild. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Some of her favorite pastimes included vegetable gardening, bike riding and spending time with family and friends.

Frances is survived by her son, H.J. Pettit IV (Kim) of Carrsville; daughter, Beth Lunde (Jim) of Chesapeake; grandchildren, Stephen Lunde, Sam Lunde and Erin Noelle Pettit; brother, John E. Carr (Mae) of Washington, N.C.; a host of nieces and nephews and extended family.

The family would like to thank the staff and nurses at Harmony at Harbour View and Interim Hospice for their patience, kindness, and loving care.

A funeral service officiated by the Rev. Keith Emerson will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 1, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 213 N. Main St. The family will receive friends and family an hour prior to the service at the church. R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home, Downtown Suffolk Chapel is serving the family.
