Man injured in early New Year’s Eve shooting

According to a press release from the Suffolk Police Department, on Sunday, Dec. 31, 2023, at approximately 2:40 a.m., the 911 center received a call regarding shots fired in the 2000 block of Freeney Ave.
The release said, officers arrived on the scene and determined that a vehicle occupied by an adult female was struck by gunfire. The female was not injured in the incident. Approximately two hours later, an adult male arrived at Obici Hospital, advising that he had been shot in the leg. It was determined that he was shot during the same incident on Freeney Ave. The release said the male was treated at Obici Hospital for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.
The investigation remains ongoing, and there is no further information available for release.
