Somewhere in Suffolk, there is a ticket from Tuesday night’s Mega Millions drawing that is now worth $3 million according to the Virginia Lottery.

The winning ticket matched the first five winning numbers and missed only the Mega Ball number. Normally that would win $1 million. However, whoever bought this ticket spent an extra dollar for the Megaplier when the ticket was purchased. That tripled the prize to $3 million.

The ticket was purchased at Murphy USA, located at 6261 College Drive in Suffolk.

The $3 million question now is: Who has that ticket?

The winning numbers for the Jan.9 drawing were 12-15-32-33-53, and the Mega Ball number was 24. This ticket is the only one in Virginia to match the first five numbers and one of just three nationwide.

Whoever has the winning ticket has 180 days from the drawing date to claim the prize. The Virginia Lottery advises that before doing anything else, the winner should immediately sign the back of the ticket to establish ownership. When the person is ready to claim the million-dollar prize, he or she should contact the Virginia Lottery.

The store receives a $10,000 bonus from the Virginia Lottery for selling the winning ticket.

Mega Millions drawings are held on Tuesday and Friday nights at 11:00 p.m. Drawings are streamed live at www.valottery.com. The odds of winning the $1,000,000 prize in Mega Millions are 1 in 12,607,306.
