It was a case of déjà vu for Suffolk’s Dana Bickham when he won $150,000 in a single Virginia Lottery Pick 4 drawing. Bickham purchased 30 tickets in the Sept. 28 drawing, all with the same four-digit combination of 1-1-2-9.
He did the same thing on May 15, 2023. That night, he won $125,000 with 25 winning tickets in the same drawing.
The prize for matching all five winning numbers in the Pick 4 game is $5,000. So, with 30 tickets containing the winning combination in the Sept. 28 drawing, Bickham multiplied that prize 30 times for $150,000 in winnings.
“I thought, ‘You’ve got to be kidding me!’” he told Lottery officials, describing the moment he realized he’d done it again.
Bickham bought his tickets at Holiday Food Store at 1523 North Main Street in Suffolk.
Bickham said he intends to save his latest winnings and possibly do some traveling.
Pick 4 drawings are held daily at 1:59 p.m. and 11 p.m. The top prize for a $1 play is $5,000. The chances of matching all four numbers in exact order are 1 in 10,000.
All Virginia Lottery profits go to K-12 education in Virginia. Bickham lives in Suffolk, which received more than $10.3 million in Lottery funds for K-12 education last fiscal year. In Fiscal Year 2023, the Lottery raised over $867 million for K-12 education, making up approximately 10% of Virginia’s total K-12 school budget.
