SUFFOLK, Virginia — Ebenezer United Methodist Church is gearing up for another night of delicious food and fellowship at its 24th annual Oyster and Barbecue Dinner, which will be held on Saturday, March 2, at 1589 Steeple Dr., at 5 p.m.
It is described as one of the “premier” local events of the Crittenden, Eclipse, and Hobson areas. The dinner will feature steamed and fried oysters and homemade desserts such as cakes and banana pudding. Tickets are $45 for adults and $10 for youth ages 13-17, with free admission for children twelve and under.
Bob Patton of Ebenezer United Methodist Church says they expect about 200 guests to attend this year’s event.
“There’s unlimited fried oysters and unlimited steamed oysters,” Patton said. “We have North Carolina barbecue, hot dogs for kids and we have wonderful desserts. All homemade desserts made by the wifes, they’re absolutely beautiful… It looks like a dessert show. They’re so elaborate and there’s so many of them.”
Proceeds from the dinner will go towards local organizations such as the Western Tidewater Free Clinic, the Eclipse July 4th Parade, the Ebenezer Youth Mission Trip and more.
“The proceeds go to some really important [causes] in Suffolk and it really [does] support the Eclipse village,” Patton said.
Finally, for those looking forward to their first Oyster and Barbecue dinner, Patton said this:
“I’ll put it like this: if you ever go once, you’ll go back again,” he said confidently.
