NORFOLK, Virginia — Fans in attendance at the Scope were treated to another goal frenzy on Saturday when the Norfolk Admirals knocked off the Maine Mariners 7-3 in front of a record crowd.
Oskari Salminen’s shutdown the Mariner attack 19 times, to help extend the Admiral sin streak to five.
In the first period, Mathieu Roy and Kamerin Nault scored early to give the Admirals a 2-0 lead. Gehrett Sargis added another goal just before the break, making it 3-0.
During the second period, the Admirals dominated with two goals from Darick Louis-Jean and one each for Mark Liwiski and Carson Musser, extending their lead to 7-0. The Mariners avoided the shutout with a Wyllum Deveaux goal with less than a minute to play.
Maine scored twice in the third period, but it was too late to mount any credible comeback.
Norfolk’s record improved to 32-19-3-1, keeping them in second place in the ECHL North Division.
The Admirals head to Reading, PA, for two games against the Royals, with the first game scheduled for Wednesday at 7 p.m.
