NSA defeats Kenston Forest on strength of Marin McGowan’s 12 K’s

On a perfect spring day, the sound of softballs clapping the inside of a catcher’s glove filled the air along Pruden as Nansemond-Suffolk Academy’s Marin McGowan’s 12 strikeout day helped propel the Saints to an 8-1 win over the Kenston Forest Kavaliers Wednesday. The NSA Lady Saints are locked in as they look to capture the fifth consecutive 

McGowan allowed only three hits over seven innings while only walking one batter, with one earned run. The Saints offensive made it easy for McGown to stay aggressive in the circle, thumping Kenston Forest for 11 hits and three walks. 

An Ellie Benes triple drove in Malli Groves to take a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.

The Saints rattled off three straight runs in the bottom of the second and again in the sixth inning.

Addy Smith and Groves both finished the game with three hits, while Smith, Groves and Zoey Carpenter stole two bases each, and Kayla Kosiorek snagged one. 

Nansemond-Suffolk hosts Grassfield on Friday, March 15, with first pitch set for 5 p.m.
