The Nansemond-Suffolk Academy Saints escaped with a 6-4 win over the Hampton Roads Academy Navigators on Monday.

Despite exploding to a five-run lead, the Navigators trimmed the deficit to just three runs heading into the seventh inning.

A pair of walks to start the Navigator seventh led to a one-out single to left field by Graham Hutchens, bringing in Wetmore and cutting the Saints’ lead to two runs. Cole Goodman, who came in for Matt Elswick, pitched Henry Hutchens into an infield flyout and threw heat on the next three pitches, fanning King for the final out of the game and his first save of the season.

Elswick threw 6 innings, sitting down seven, moving his season record to 3-1.

Gavin Angelillo had two hits and three RBI on the night, which led to a key intentional walk and a run scored in the bottom of the sixth inning. Cam Bergen also added two hits.

While the Saints held its position at number three in the second VISAA poll, they improved to 8-5 on the season and are set to travel to Williamsburg to take on Walsingham Academy on Thursday.
