The NSA Lady Saints dispatched the Norfolk Academy Bulldogs 16-0 in four innings Thursday. The Lady Saints improve to 13-1-1, with their only loss coming at the hands of Hickory.
NSA racked up 14 hits on 27 plate appearances. Addy Smith took the circle to start, throwing three innings and sitting down five. Ellie Benes came in to close the game out in the fourth, fanning three to seal the win.
Rylea Nelms started the scoring with a double to center in the second inning, scoring Marin McGowan. Nelms found home on a wild pitch, and Kayla Kosiorek singled into a fielder’s choice, scoring Sophia Grant.
The NSA half of the third inning was much like the second, with a Grace Patterson fly ball to right field, scoring Nelms and Grant. After Makenna Kuehl was hit by a pitch, Ally Spires entered the game for Zoe Carpenters, doubling to left, scoring Patterson. Kuehl and Spires rounded out the scoring in the third on a hard ground ball by Malli Groves, extending the Saints’ lead to 10-0.
Two walks and a single in the top half of the fifth led to a Kuehl single, driving in Mackenzie Farrell, Kosiorek, and Carleigh McCoy. Spires and Paige Meeks rounded out the scoring, pushing the score to 16-0.
NSA will travel to North Carolina to take on the Manteo Redskins on Saturday, April 29. First pitch is set for noon.
