Applewood Farms is quickly earning its place among the best in the National Night Out business.

The subdivision off Godwin Boulevard north of the bypass has placed first the past two years. It’s looking to make it three in a row this Tuesday.

“What puts us over the top is our involvement with the community beyond the walls of our neighborhood, as well as the amount of people percentage-wise within our community that participate,” said Denise Ranay, the community coordinator for National Night Out.

This year, the party will include bounce houses, dinner, a disc jockey and karaoke, competitions for talent, art and air guitar, yard games and more.

“It will be phenomenal this year,” she said.

Ranay said National Night Out is important because knowing your neighbors and local business owners improves the safety of the community.

“I think it’s important because the community has time to come together and get to know each other so we know who’s who, who belongs and who doesn’t,” Ranay said. “It’s extra eyes in the community.

“It’s keeping our neighborhood safer and keeping our whole city safer,” she added.
